Familiars

Several times now I have come across a familiar all alone, without an owner. Sometimes I have had a familiar of the same kind as another character nearby of the same skill as mine (Ranger - Elmfist level 21) hovering next to me. How do I bind such a familiar to my character? Ive tried double-clicking, right-clicking, nothing seems to work.

Any help appreciated.

 

they belong to another player, for whatever reason the player is not showing. I get this sometimes when I first log in, as im invisible also, but things gradually start appearing. slower/intermittent connection can cause it

 

Ok. I probably shouldn't be telling you this here in the forum. But you seem to be a nice person, so I will take the chance. Hopefully, you will get to read this before the mods see it and delete it. It's a secret that only a few Lvl 50 players know about....

First, you have to fight Mortis solo on fatal mode using just three green essence and no armour. A white (un-gemmed) weapon is permitted. When you defeat him, he will give you a special potion of bonding. You can use this to bind any free familiar.


Edit to add: ignore the reply before mine. That player obviously isn't in on the secret. Remember: don't tell anyone else about this, ok?

Well, as said by tassadar, these pets (not "familiars") belong to someone else. This is usually brought on through lag. Most commonly it happens in cities as there is a higher concentration of players. Usually, if you see someone's character gliding back and forth (often called "rubberbanding"), their pet will likely end up glitched like this. There are other times that this happens, but rest assured, they are all owned and loved. The only way to get a pet of your own is by buying one at the mount/pet vendor (the "Tamer"), from events, from playing with Thabo during Twitch broadcasts, or from events (ingame or social media).

A somewhat strange question, but were you by any chance reading the novel Sorcerer to the Crown recently? Binding "familiars" isn't something I see mentioned much.

Also, don't worry about getting a pet yet if you're only level 21! (i.e. spending your anders on one) Free (and cute) pets will come around with regular events.

Nope ... he is right. 90% of our pets are from the events.

 

This thread has some useful info re "pets". Shows that my character is far too junior to get one for himself.

 

You're talking about old (versions of) events.
I play since December 2015 and I got myself just some medusa eyes and a blue essence pet (I also got the green one, which is 1% more useless that the blue one, but I threw it out.)
I've seen that old events had pets and mounts in the progress bar... Have you seen any pet on newer events? I think not! (except the Essence one if you were lucky enough to drop one)
So the "Free (and cute) pets will come around with regular events." is total BS, when it comes to the reworked events. This is a lie for a new players' ears.
And the only "regular events" are the moon ones... No pets in there.

Don't worry. The next incoming event:Curse of the Black Knights. U will easily get 2 pets(if u are lucky):
(1)Jumping pumkin head (+5% hitpoints) (2) Raven (+5% all resistance values)

 

Who says that is next? I hope it is, but the CMs are saying that it will be a while before Dragan comes back.

 

Well ... just because you started playing recently it doesn't mean they are old.
I will list only the events giving pets "in your time":
1. Winter Solstice Festival - Diligent Gnome - reward from the progress bar at 999 Honey Cookies
2. Defeat the Undefeatebles - M'Edusa Doll - reward from the chests
3. Desert of Essences - Essence Spout - Drop from the Berserkers (usually I am trashing at least 10 Red Essence Spouts per event ... and i am not counting the other color spouts since I don't even pick them up)
4. Gloomy Harpy - reward from a bonus code



As you can see the events are having so much contents for a new player ... but almost nothing for a vet.

The CMs said: We hope Dragan Event will come this year.
And frankly I don't understand why so much buzz about Dragan Event when that event is not a big deal. Take out the set gear which most of the players already have ... and you are getting one boring crappy event.
Put back the large gem bags again ... farm from the last year's Easter edition ... and we are back in business again. Something that is worth grinding.

 

1. Was too new to understand what's the deal with events.
2. I bet that even you couldn't get it.
3. I got the green by mistake. While searching for piggies I summoned the green one by mistake. The blue eventually dropped, but the purple and red just didn't. Tho, I killed the red one just 2 times.
4. Don't even remind me of this. My brother received the spheres on my mentor bonus chara .

 

I have got enough parts to make 3 pets and still there would be leftovers.
