    Its function and how it relates to block rate?

    Also, what are the ideal SW's ball stats?

    Thank you.

    When your Block activates the damage taken is being reduced by X(BS) times.
    You can read this post from _Baragain_ ... it is pretty much same for all classes.

    When block, (100/(1+block strength))% dmg reduced

    So, you have received the answer to your first question, let me answer your second question.

    There is no such thing as an Ideal ball stat.
    However, there is a maximum ball stat.
    So, your ideal could be between the minimum and maximum stats.

    A Legendary ball can have 4 lines.
    A ball can have stats of block strength, increased block rate, damage, armor and health.

    The following are the maximum possible values for each line (1 out of 4) on a ball at level 50:

    Increased Block Rate % = 65%
    Block strength = 0.65
    Damage = 52
    Armor = 556
    HP = 567

    Most people would try to get 2x Increased Block Rate and 2x Block Strength or 3x and 1x

    Yes and no.
    You have a "Base" block strength of 1. However, 1/1=1 and 1-1=0 so no damage is blocked, even if you somehow had block rate. Instead of saying "100/(1+block strength)" the better way to say it is "100%*(1-1/total_block_strength)=damage_reduction" but only up to 80% (which happens at 5 total block strength which is almost impossible to reach).
    I haven't run the new numbers since I created my "ideal shield chart," but I'd bet that the new best shields are 3x strength and 1x rate, providing you have the Warlord set. I'd also be interested to check into factoring in a high armor line or high HP line and use my "effective HP" model to see it's total impact.

    Base block strength is 1,so 100%/(1 +1(shield without block strength enchantment))=50%.cant see what goes wrong.
    But yes,total block strength is less confusing.

    that's because it is 50% either way(Damage reduced and net Damage taken) in your example, try same formula with an additional strength of 1 i.e. a total of 3

    Your formula would result 100%/(1+2) reduction = 33% reduction which is wrong
    what you calculated is the net damage not the damage reduced.To calculate the damage reduced you must use baragain's formula which is essentially just 100-(your formula)
