Ok so for starters, I have been playing this game for just about a week now, maybe a week and a half. I have played this game before a couple of years ago but stopped so I know HOW to play the game but there are still a lot of questions that I would like answered. I won't of course ask all of them. I will ask this 1 though.

    1. I apologize if this has been asked and answered already.
    2. I apologize if this is a stupid question.

I hover over Combat Value and read what is says BUT... What does it actually do? Does it have a meaning?

    Again sorry for the inconvenience.

Not really. Don't pay attention to the Combat Value.
It is a game feature that developers introduced but it fails miserably to properly estimate a value for an item.

I have complained loudly and frequently about the CV system. It is worse than useless; it is misleading. It assigns arbitrary and subjective values to things like armor and damage that do not adequately reflect the quality of the character. For example, a character with tons of armor and the bare minimum HP would have a higher CV than a character that balances the two well, but a defensively well balanced character will be significantly harder to kill. I proposed a system to the CMs/devs, and even laid out all the math, that would involve a two number CV system, offence and defence, that was based on objective values like Effective HP and DPS, but they seem to think that it is too confusing.

So, to recap the developers chose to give us a misleading system with one single, easy to understand number as opposed to a two number system that is truly accurate but requires you to understand that the quality of the character can not be readily described in one number.:eek:

See, this is what I have been waiting for. An answer to a question about a feature that just baffled me. I see the CV and think, "What the hell?" I usually just go by Armor Value and All Resist Values and DMG of course but I honestly don't even know if I'm picking the right things. I just know that even if the CV is higher, if the other things are higher I pick it anyway. I just figured maybe there was going to be a day where CV mattered or if it even does. Thank you guys.

For a true metric of defensive quality, use the equations I laid out here. For offence, use the equations here. I'm working on putting all of this together in an app that will be released some time in the future, but for the time being, I hope the links help.

The defense one is rather recent. The offence one is old and some of the mechanics have changed (like how crit is calculated), but the equation is still valid.
